Shadows
The 'Shadows' project will be different ideas all connected by the theme of shadows. Using light onto an object to create a black shadow/outline.
Lotte Reiniger photography.
I have chosen this photograph because it shows good use of shadow and has a very inspirational technique, colour and shape.
what?
Why?
what?
- This is a shadow of the outline of a women in a dress.
- Lotte uses the purple background to define the shadow of the woman.
- The subject matter; a women in a dress with big accessories and a crown also with a border that looks like a bubble outline.
- The size hasn't been edited to look bigger or smaller it is the same size as it should be.
- A screen has been put up with a gap in the middle,a person has posed to create a black outline using a blue purple/blue light to add colour to the scene.
- The work is from the shadow show 'Cinderella' that was created by cut out paper shapes that tell the story of Cinderella.
- Lotte Reiniger has created a couple other videos using the same technique but a different story line.
- The Cinderella shadow show was created in 1922.
Why?
- The work was created because she focused on Disney films for inspiration and Cinderella was a new inspiration for Lotte.
- I think that Lotte Reiniger chose the subject of Disney films because they were new and popular and are nice projects to work on and re-animate.
- I chose this work because it seemed like there was more to it that just a photograph, and after i researched it I figured out that it was actually a fairy tail shadow show.
- This is relevant because it has shown me another technique on how to create shadows photography.
Paul Strand photography.
I have chosen this photo from Paul Strand because, its a unique shape and the black and white effect is really intriguing.
